Completed: 2005
Size: 600 sq. ft.
Christoph Kapeller in collaboration with Mitchell De Jarnett as KDJ

The Private Library for 15,000 volumes is a small addition to an existing residence. The client is a bibliophile whose beloved, but always growing collection was exiled in a storage unit. The project establihes a strong dialogue between landscape, residence, pool and the volume of the new library. The “locking seam” zinc cladding at the exterior extends along the three exposed sides of the library as well as along its roof.

This complete metal wrapping of the building and the lack of apparent openings in the facades enhance its vault-like appearance.
